Report: New Impact Wrestling Champion STILL Working Without Contract
Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace killed it at Slammiversary, but the winner is still a free agent.
Deonna Purrazzo became the new Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion at last weekend's Slammiversary pay-per-view, defeating Jordynne Grace in an outstanding match many were quick to throw Match of the Night honours at, though the former NXT wrestler is still working without an Impact contract.
This is according to Fightful Select, who report that Purrazzo is still on a pay-per-appearance deal with the promotion. There is currently no word on whether or not the two parties are in discussions over a written contract.
Purrazzo has had an eventful 2020. The 26-year-old was let go from WWE alongside dozens of other independent contractors as part of the promotion's Black Wednesday releases and furloughs on 15 April, though she seemingly wasn't beholden to the same non-compete contract as everyone else, showing up in Impact in their 9 June episode. Immediately placed into a feud with Grace, the Knockouts Champion, Deonna was positioned as a threat straight away, leading up to the big title win at Slammiversary.
A gritty, attritional clash worked with a satisfying snugness, Grace vs. Purrazzo was one of Impact's best matches of 2020. Here's hoping Deonna's run yields more of this callibre.
