Report: NJPW Star Offered WWE Contract
WWE is reportedly out to add this NJPW wrestler to its growing talent roster.
WWE has reportedly offered a contract to JONAH, the current NJPW wrestler released by the market leaders' previous regime in August 2021.
Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that JONAH has offers on the table from both WWE and NJPW. The 34-year-old now faces a choice between two companies with different kinds of appeal. Meltzer stated that while the potential money will be bigger in WWE, JONAH would be pushed and protected in New Japan, where he has emerged as a potential breakout star in recent months.
WWE's bottom number for main roster stars, per Meltzer, is around $250,000 annually. There is no word on the number JONAH has been offered though.
Brought into WWE in January 2019, JONAH became Bronson Reed upon his televised debut later that year His run peaked with an NXT North American Championship reign in 2021, though he fell victim to WWE's swooping cuts that August, which Vince McMahon ultimately made the call on.
That Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, WWE's new head of creative, pushed JONAH well during his NXT run may bode well for the Australian should he return. Levesque assumed control of WWE's main roster output upon McMahon's resignation in July.
