The huge, building-wide pops generated by Sting's AEW Double Or Nothing 2021 performance were mirrored backstage.

Per PWInsider's Mike Johnson, the WCW icon's age-defying showing generated a huge pop in the locker-room, as the 62-year-old teamed with ally Darby Allin to face Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky.

It was a performance few outwith the company could have seen coming from Sting. Competing in his first live pro wrestling match since seriously injuring his neck opposite Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions 2015, the veteran was light-footed, sharp, and nowhere near as tentative as one might expect someone of his advancing years and recent injury record to be.

The bout's opening minutes told the audience this was going to be a different Sting than expected, as he no-sold a Sky suplex on the ramp, popped up, shoved his opponent to the floor, and leapt onto Scorpio and Page with a dive. "You've still got it!" chants filled Daily's Place soon after. Later, Sting finished Sky after nailing the Scorpion Death Drop.

Sting's previous AEW match came against Team Taz at Revolution 2021, with the street fight's cinematic veil protecting him. There was no such safety net at Double Or Nothing.
