Report: Vince McMahon Wanted To Do Another WWE Brawl For All In 2010
Somewhere in the world, Butterbean lets out a disappointed sigh...
The WWF Brawl For All is widely considered one of the dumbest and most destructive ideas a wrestling promotion has ever committed to tape. Last night saw it given the VICE Dark Side of the Ring treatment, with the acclaimed series deep-diving the controversial shoot fighting tournament, its ramifications, and its many, many casualties.
It's impossible to watch the episode without leaving with the impression that the Brawl For All was an unmitigated disaster (note: it was). This didn't stop Vince McMahon from considering running another one more than a decade later, though.
John Piermarini, a WWE writer and producer from 2009 to 2015, tweeted the following after the show:-
If true, given the shambles that was the first tournament, it ranks amongst McMahon's most baffling ideas ever. The 2009 and 2010 NXT seasons featured the likes of Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan, Kaval, and Husky Harris. There are definitely some tough guys in there but, as we saw in the original Brawl For All, pro-wrestling tough guys don't always look so tough when forced to throw real leather.
Thank goodness Vince was talked down.
