Report: WrestleMania 36 Expected To Go Ahead "In Some Form"
Here's the latest as the world waits for a WrestleMania decision.
WrestleMania 36 hangs in the balance, though sources within WWE expect the event to go ahead in some shape or form.
This is the word of Dave Meltzer on today's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. He says that this information was passed onto him by an insider, though there was no word on what this could actually entail.
All kinds of possibilities have been speculated over the past week or so, including holding WrestleMania behind closed doors, postponing the event, cancelling it, or moving it overseas. That last option now appears to be completely off the table following President Trump's travel ban and news that Saudi Arabia has suspended all public attendance at big events.
The truest, most definitive verdict on 'Mania's status will land later today, when Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will meet with other city officials to discuss what to do with major events. Until then, everything else should be treated as speculation.
While reconfiguring 'The Show of Shows' would represent a major inconvenience to WWE, it'd be the independent groups who cluster around 'Mania weekend who'd suffer the most. Many of those promotions rely on the weekend's shows to break even for the year and could be decimated if Tampa events are put on ice.
