Report: WWE Has Cancelled Raw Underground
Farewell, Shane McMahon's fight club...
Raw Underground is no more, writes Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
It was reported in August that WWE had trimmed three segments of the Shane McMahon-helmed venture from an episode of Raw, though no reasons were given. WWE then put Underground on ice in September, but only temporarily, with the promotion low on personnel following the latest COVID-19 outbreak at the Performance Center. That Underground largely relied on performers who train at WWE's state-of-the-art facility (who were more likely to come into contact with somebody who had contracted the virus) made this the sensible move.
Meltzer notes that most of the extras WWE would have brought back for Raw Underground are now active again. They could theoretically have resumed the feature by now, but have decided not to.
Underground regulars Dabba-Kato, Arturo Ruas, and Riddick Moss were all featured in that recent 2020 Draft. There's currently no word on what these performers will do if Underground has indeed been shelved.
The MMA-adjacent concept was first introduced on Raw's 3 August episode, with Shane hosting the scraps in a dingy basement setting. They had continued through WWE's move from the Performance Center to ThunderDome.
