Report: WWE Management HATED AEW Blood & Guts
WWE officials feel AEW Blood & Guts "set the business back 30 years."
WWE management weren't high on last week's AEW Blood & Guts match, with one claiming it "set the business back 30 years."
This is according to PWInsider's Dave Scherer, who notes that this response wasn't exactly shared by WWE's roster, one of whom commented that they "would love to do something like that themselves."
Commenting on the situation on the F4WOnline message board, Dave Meltzer said that this take is consistent with Vince McMahon. He noted that several high-ranking WWE officials shared this view, though there was at least one who held the opposite opinion.
McMahon inadvertently named the Blood & Guts match on 25 July 2019, when he said the following on WWE's Q2 2019 financial earnings call:-
"But at the same time, we're not going to go back to the Attitude Era, and we're not going to do blood and guts and things of that nature such as being done on perhaps a new potential competitor. We're just not going to go back to that gory crap that we graduated from."
The Pinnacle bested The Inner Circle in the first Blood & Guts match last week, with MJF shoving Chris Jericho from the top of the cage. It was a brutal, bloody clash that enacted a heavy physical toll on its performers, but also drew a big TV audience, with Dynamite finishing first on cable for the first time in its existence.
