Report: WWE Wants Jeff Hardy BACK
Why WWE recently made a serious play to bring Jeff Hardy back to the company...
WWE has made a play to bring Jeff Hardy back to the company within the past few weeks.
This is according to Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He writes that WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis contacted Jeff with an offer including a 2022 Hall of Fame induction a few weeks ago, but Hardy turned it down.
In response, Jeff asked for the company to return his drug test results, as he believed he wasn't going to test positive for recreational substances. Jeff's brother, Matt, made a similar point in December, stating that the public would feel better about his sibling's WWE release once those results were made public.
Meltzer states Jeff and his wife waited six weeks to get the results back.
Part of WWE's drive to bring Hardy back is that the company doesn't want to see him in AEW, where they feel the Hardy Boyz could become a revitalized act opposite such tag teams as The Young Bucks, FTR, and more. As things stand, however, Jeff is still bound to a non-compete clause until 9 March.
Hardy was released from WWE in early December, having walked out mid-match during a house show main event earlier in the month. It was later revealed that WWE had offered Jeff the chance to go to rehab, which he rejected.
