Report: WWE WrestleMania 38 Watched By MONSTER Audience In India
A staggering Indian audience reportedly watched WrestleMania 38 earlier this month.
WWE WrestleMania 38 was watched by a record-breaking number of people in India on 2 and 3 April 2022.
Per India.com (citing numbers from Broadcast Audience Research Council India), a total of 56.1 million viewers watched 'Mania 38 on Sony Sports Network in India. This was up 29% compared to 2021's WrestleMania 37 two-nighter.
While that 56.1 million number is presumably a live total for both shows (Saturday and Sunday), given that individual numbers have not been revealed, this isn't explicitly stated.
As far as live viewership goes, India.com stated that Saturday was up 34% on the previous year and Sunday by 33%. Again, the specific totals for each night have not been revealed.
WrestleMania 38's total audience set a new record on the Indian subcontinent. The country has long been home to one of the largest and most enthusiastic wrestling audiences in the world, though multiple promotions have struggled to monetise their loyalty and dedication over the years, including WWE. Although designed to stimulate growth in the Indian wrestling market, Jinder Mahal's 2017 run as WWE Champion failed to do so.
2020 saw WWE sign a five-year deal with Indian streaming platform SonyLIV worth an estimated $50 million annually.
