Rockstar Spud Debuts As New WWE 205 Live General Manager
Say hello to Drake Maverick.
Last week's 205 Live saw Daniel Bryan promise to introduce the Cruiserweight brand's new general manager, and he delivered on yesterday's show, unveiling former Impact Wrestling star Rockstar Spud as the man in charge.
Now going by Drake Maverick, the GM's first act was to announce a 16-man tournament to crown a new Cruiserweight Champion. TJP and Cedric Alexander advanced in their first round bouts later in the night, with the tourney set to conclude at WrestleMania 34, where the deposed Enzo Amore's successor will be determined.
Maverick also met with Drew Gulak and TJP throughout the course of the show, but these interactions brought no significant developments.
There's currently no word on whether or not the new GM will compete in the ring. His role suggests not, but while primarily known for his bold personality, Maverick kept an active wrestling schedule for Impact and on the indies. Regardless, he looked right at home on his first night as 205 GM.
Spud's new monicker has already come in for criticism, with some fans jeering his rechristening. Chants of "Spud" took over during his promo, but while the script didn't allow Maverick to show much personality, his past work suggests he'll be a success.
