7. The Third Wheel In History

While this memory doesn€™t directly relate to Roddy Piper, his role in this moment was both critical and central. Piper€™s Pit was the backdrop of the budding Hulk Hogan-Andre the Giant feud in 1987 that would explode in what Jesse Ventura (accurately) called, €œthe biggest match in the history of professional wrestling.€ It was on Piper€™s Pit that Hogan would be presented with a trophy for being world champion for three years, and then Andre would later be presented with a smaller trophy for being €œundefeated€ for 15 years. In two segments, the seeds were sown, it things were set to come to a head.In one of the most famous scenes in WWF/E history, Andre the Giant unveiled his new manager, Hogan nemesis Bobby €œThe Brain€ Heenan, and challenged Hulk for his WWF Championship. Piper, long Hogan€™s rival, had to play the role of calming the champ. A week later, it was Piper demanding €œyes or no€ whether Hogan would face his longtime friend at WrestleMania III. And it was Piper who got the answer out of him to set up €œthe biggest match in the history of professional wrestling.€
