Sad News From Sting On AEW Dynamite
We did indeed "hear from Sting" on last night's AEW Dynamite.
Sting revealed his retirement plans on last night's AEW Dynamite, confirming that he will work his final wrestling match at the Revolution 2024 pay-per-view.
'The Icon', whose first AEW match happened at Revolution 2021, confirmed as much during a pre-advertised in-ring segment. After crediting the likes of Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, and Lex Luger for helping him throughout his career, Sting mentioned his 2015 retirement, which he claimed "didn't sit right" with him. He then spoke of stepping away for good, pinpointing Revolution 2024.
The segment fed into an angle involving Darby Allin, Nick Wayne, Christian Cage, and Luchasaurus. A brawl that began during a sitdown interview spilt into the arena, with Sting saving Allin from being beaten down by the heels.
Sting has been with AEW since Winter is Coming in December 2020, when he showed up to save Allin and Cody Rhodes from Team Taz's Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks. The 64-year-old has since worked 20 matches for the Tony Khan-helmed promotion, where once it looked like stepping back between the ropes would have been impossible for an ageing veteran with notable late-career injury woes.
Now, fans have four more months to savour Sting before he walks away.
