Sami Zayn was the opponent for John Cena's US Title Open Challenge on Raw two weeks ago. As he was getting in the ring for the match, he was hyping up the crowd in his hometown of Montreal and he hurt his shoulder. It was a legit injury. Even though he was in a lot of pain, Zayn fought through it and completed the match as he put on an incredible performance against the WWE legend. Cena won the match, but Zayn received a standing ovation from the crowd. When the match was over, there was concern about Zayn's shoulder. We knew that NXT Takeover Unstoppable was set for this Wednesday with Zayn challenging Kevin Owens for the NXT Title. It's the title that Zayn lost in May, so this was the big rematch. There was a fear that he might miss months due to shoulder surgery. Apparently not. According to Triple H during a media conference call today, Hunter said that Zayn has been cleared and will compete against Owens as scheduled in the main event. During the build up to the match, Owens has said that he's the reason Zayn got hurt months ago and after he's done with him Zayn won't be back in the ring. During Owens' Raw debut this week, he also told Cena that he's going to beat Zayn. It's nice to know that Zayn has been cleared although since it's WWE you never know what's true and what's part of their storylines. They could definitely do something where they say Zayn is ready to compete in the match, but he really might not be and then it would be used in an angle. Perhaps Owens or somebody else could attack Zayn before the match even begins. It's not like Triple H is going to say that they're going to run some kind of angle like that. During the conference call, Hunter was also asked if he could single out somebody in their transition to WWE success. He mentioned Zayn by saying that he's come a long way as a guy that wrestled in a mask (as El Generico) with no facials and very little promos and they got him to where he was now. It's been incredible to see Sami grow as a performer. WWE has helped him a lot, but he also had so much talent before he got there. The hope is that Zayn can get through the match with Owens without further injuring his shoulder. It should be an outstanding match that has a tremendous backstory going into it as well. Remember that NXT Takeover: Unstoppable takes place on Wednesday May 20 at 8pmET on WWE Network. We'll have full results and analysis after the show is over.
