Sammy Guevara Indefinitely Suspended By AEW
Guevara sidelined as inappropriate Sasha Banks comments resurface.
AEW has suspended Sammy Guevara without pay after a clip of him making inappropriate comments towards WWE's Sasha Banks on a 2016 podcast appearance resurfaced on Monday.
The promotion issued the following statement:-
"AEW insists on doing our part to create a world of understanding and respect for humankind. We therefore strongly condemn the extremely offensive and hurtful words of Sammy Guevara. As such, effective immediately, Sammy is suspended without pay until further notice. Sammy has agreed to undergo extensive sensitivity training and, upon completion, his future status with the company will be re-evaluated. During his suspension, his salary will be donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville."
This came following an eventful day after the soundbite, in which Guevara joked that he wanted to "f****** rape" Banks while visiting the WWE Performance Center, hit social media.
Guevara issued two separate apologies on Twitter, claiming he would "never forgive himself" in the first. The second saw him tag Banks directly:-
Sasha posted her own statement on the situation at roughly the same time, stating that she and Guevara had openly discussed the matter:-
It should also be noted that Sammy liked a tweet absolving him of all blame prior to issuing his initial apology. He has since removed the like.
Guevara was booked to face Matt Hardy on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite, though the veteran will now face Santana instead.
The situation was resolved swiftly and professionally by AEW. That Guevara will now undergo sensitivity training while his salary is donated to a women's group is encouraging, and Bank's statement is all class, too. Here's hoping Sammy learns and grows from this.
