Santos Escobar Re-Signs With WWE, "Creative Concerns" Addressed (WWE News)
Santos Escobar has chosen to re-sign with WWE.
With news earlier this week that Santos Escobar had opted to depart WWE after allowing his contract to expire, the Legado Del Fantasma man has undergone a change of heart and re-signed with the market leader.
Previously, Fightful Select reported that WWE had been keen to keep Escobar, had offered him improved terms, but the talent himself had "creative dissatisfaction" and decided against re-signing with the company. Essentially, it was a creative issue rather than any financial issue as to why Santos chose not to pen a new deal. That prior contract expired on Monday night, and Escobar's WWE.com profile was moved to the Alumni section by Tuesday.
However, per PWInsider, a new agreement was reached between the two parties at some point on Tuesday, with WWE appreciating Santos Escobar's creative concerns and also making him a "sizably larger offer". Additionally, speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez noted that Santos got "a lot of money" and "a lot of different" perks as part of this new deal.
For those more skeptical fans who think that WWE has thrown money at Escobar to keep him for the sake of keeping him, Alvarez doesn't think that's the case, saying how, historically, he doesn't know of one person "making that kind of money, that's sitting around in catering" and that he believes we're "going to see a lot more of Santos Escobar". He also suggested that WWE pushed hard to re-sign Santos because they didn't want the perception out there that the talent had chosen to leave.
A 25-year veteran of the squared circle, Santos Escobar has been with WWE since 2019, having previously worked for both CMLL and AAA, had a spell in TNA, and also had a memorable run in the much-missed Lucha Underground as King Cuerno.
