Shazam! Deleted Scene Teased The Rock's Black Adam
An empty throne reveals space in the DCEU for Dwayne Johnson...
Sooner or later, we're going to get The Rock in a DC movie. He was cast as Black Adam ages ago and so far, he's not even cameoed in any of Warner Bros' slate of comic book movies, despite some pretty loaded rumours.
There's a suggestion that he'll make his debut in The Suicide Squad (as a cameo), but it's more likely that The Rock will turn up fully costumed-up in his own solo movie, instead. After all, if there was a chance to turn in Shazam! and he didn't take it, there has to be a plan to use him in his own origin film first.
The character was teased slightly in David F Sandberg's take on the Shazam story, as the wizard Shazam mentions an original hero who went astray, but other than that, he's conspicuously absent.
Originally, though, there would have been a more conspicuous nod to him, which we now know about thanks to a deleted scene that's appeared online. In it, we see Shazam leading his family to the Rock of Eternity and their ancient thrones. Billy Batson's older sister Mary then notices a seventh throne that seems to have no occupant and wonders who it belongs to, while Darla Dudley declares "Well, whoever it is, I'm going to love them no matter what because they're an automatic part of the family."
Given that Black Adam is now firmly back in the works, it seems she's going to get the chance to test out that theory fairly soon.
