Shelton Benjamin FINALLY Returning To WWE
The former Intercontinental, Tag Team, and United States Champion is set to make his return soon.
Shelton Benjamin is finally set to return to WWE, according to a report by PWInsider.
There is no word on a specific date for the second debut of the three-time Intercontinental Champion, but one WWE source apparently stated that it will be 'soon.'
WWE were set to re-sign the 42 year old last summer, only to discover that he had a torn rotator cuff during medical testing.
Benjamin debuted on the main roster in 2002 alongside Charlie Haas, soon dominating the SmackDown tag team division as 'The World's Greatest Tag Team'. He was drafted to Raw in 2004 and given a singles push, which included a series of victories over Triple H. His later years with WWE were characterised by unsuccessful gimmick changes and - on a more positive note - a succession of amazing Money in the Bank ladder match performances.
Benjamin was released in 2010 and headed to Ring of Honor, where he and old partner Haas became two-time ROH World Tag Team Champions. In 2012 he made his debut in New Japan Pro Wrestling as part of Minoru Suzuki's villainous Suzuki-gun stable, but hasn't been seen in the promotion since early 2015.
News of Benjamin's return will surely excite fans of his WWE run. Although never quite pushed to the main event scene, he was a popular performer due to his workrate and athleticism - winning the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's 'Most Underrated' award three years running (2005-2007).
