Should WWE Unify Both World Titles At WrestleMania 38?
Conversation is starting to ramp up regarding the WWE and Universal Titles merging.
WWE seem likely to put Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar in a 'Champion vs. Champion' showdown at WrestleMania 38 this coming April.
This has led to suspicions that the company might unify both the WWE and Universal Titles on that pay-per-view. After all, it's unrealistic to expect the same sort of non-title 'Champ vs. Champ' bout they typically promote every November at Survivor Series.
Merging both World Titles into an Undisputed WWE Championship could be the way to go then. Ex-WWE referee Jimmy Korderas recently told Wrestling Inc's Daily podcast that repeating a trick Vince McMahon pulled in 2002 could be wise.
Korderas believes that having one champion who splits time between Raw and SmackDown is preferable to having two 'World Champs'. He's never been a huge fan of that, and thinks having an Undisputed titleholder in 2022 sounds pretty good.
Admittedly, this would keep things fresh on both major shows and possibly give secondary belts a bigger spotlight when the champion was busy on another brand; for example, the Raw or SmackDown Women's Titles could become a focal point, or the Intercontinental belt may become the focus instead.
It's a compelling argument.
