Special Episode Of WWE NXT Planned For The Summer

NXT will be bringing back a familiar theme later this year...

WWE will reportedly be bringing back its Great American Bash theme for an episode of NXT TV later this year.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via WrestlingNews.co), Dave Meltzer noted how the current plan is to do a special Great American Bash-driven slice of NXT programming for the 4 July outing for WWE's developmental arm.

Of course, The Great American Bash was a PPV synonymous with Jim Crockett Promotions and WCW, with the first of these airing in 1985 and being headlined by Dusty Rhodes defeating Tully Blanchard in a steel cage match to become the new NWA World Television Champion.

For WWE, they ran their own Great American Bash PPVs from 2004 through until 2009, and that theme was brought back by the NXT brand in 2020.

In addition to this Bash episode of TV, NXT also has two Premium Live Events coming up. The first of these will be NXT Battleground next Sunday, where Carmelo Hayes will defend the NXT Title against Bron Breakker in an event that will go head-to-head with AEW Double or Nothing. Following that, NXT has a to-be-named PLE pencilled in for 12 August.
