Stardom Interested In Working With AEW?
Stardom wrestlers won't be present at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in June, BUT...
While leading joshi promotion Stardom won't have a presence on the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, the Bushiroad-helmed group is open to working with Tony Khan's company in the future.
Dave Meltzer writes in this week's Wrestling Observer Radio that Stardom currently has a major pay-per-view scheduled for the same day as Forbidden Door, preventing their participation. The first NJPW/AEW collaborative event takes place in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday 26 June.
Despite this, Stardom officials are interested in collaborating on future shows. Specifically, management would like to book AEW wrestlers for an event at Tokyo's Ryōgoku Sumo Hall on 30 December, hoping that foreign fans will fly into Japan for NJPW Wrestle Kindom 14, which starts on 4 January. Whether or not the two sides have discussed this yet is currently unclear, however.
That NJPW and Stardom share a parent company in Bushiroad led to immediate speculation on a Stardom presence at Forbidden Door as soon as the pay-per-view was announced last week.
NJPW's lack of women's division leaves a potential void on the Forbidden Door card, which is expected to consist primarily of NJPW vs. AEW bouts. AEW's regular joshi partners, Gatoh Move and Tokyo Joshi Pro, could conceivably be called on, though neither is operated by Bushiroad and the latter has an event scheduled on Fukuoka the same day.
