Suddenly, ROH Death Before Dishonor 2022 Looks Incredible
ROH's next pay-per-view, Death Before Dishonor, takes place on 23 July - and the card rules.
Ring Of Honor returns with Death Before Dishonor on Saturday 23 July - and the card is starting to look tremendous.
The pay-per-view's build taking place on AEW's weekly television shows, which were already crowded prior to Tony Khan's purchase of ROH, presents storytelling and marketing challenges. Nonetheless, Khan has booked bouts that, if nothing else, look outstanding on paper, with each at least built from recent history.
FTR's ROH World Tag Team Title defence against The Briscoes looks the most appealing on paper. A potential headliner, it comes following the two teams' consensus Match of the Year candidate at April's Supercard of Honor, where Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler were victorious.
Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia, meanwhile, contested the United States' best independent wrestling match in 2021, going 60 minutes in a detail-rich IWTV 100 match that never lagged. That's no mean feat for any wrestler, let alone two of such youth. They'll rematch for Yuta's ROH Pure Championship at Death Before Dishonor.
Last Friday's Rampage brought Serena Deeb's turn on Women's Champion Mercedes Martinez, establishing their match, while ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham swerved Lee Moriarty ahead of their rumoured bout (which hasn't been announced yet). Elsewhere, Samoa Joe's TV Title defence over long-term rival Jay Lethal is well-established on AEW television and in ROH folklore.
Expect further match announcements over the coming weeks. Nonetheless, while the build was never going to be as detailed as a typical AEW pay-per-view, Death Before Dishonor looks to follow in Supercard Of Honor's footsteps as a show that could overdeliver hugely.
