Cody Rhodes pinpointed Kevin Owens as the man most deserving of a crack at his WWE Title come Bash In Berlin on 31 August over in Germany, but KO himself wasn't so sure. In fact, he told fans on SmackDown that he didn't think he'd done enough to merit a title shot.

SmackDown GM Nick Aldis made the match official during a backstage segment later on by teasing that maybe Roman Reigns should get the nod instead. That riled Owens, and he agreed to wrestle Cody at the end of the month if it meant The Bloodline were kept at bay.

The surprising thing here is that WWE chose to go babyface vs. babyface for Rhodes' next challenger. There might be a sting in the tail coming soon if KO believes Cody is treating him like a charity case though - that could also feed neatly into a future feud between ex-Legacy pals Rhodes and Randy Orton.

There was a subtle splash of arrogance to Cody's promo on Friday. Kevin's puzzled reaction kinda suggested that he found it condescending too. Interesting.

The match is set regardless of where WWE takes the story next.
