13. 2014 | “Yes! Yes! Yes!”

Is there a better feeling, as a wrestling fan, than when we watch a fan favourite become completely undeniable? This feeling was made all the sweeter back when Vince McMahon, at his most powerful, out-of-touch, and mean-spirited, did everything imaginable to deny those wrestlers a top spot. 

Daniel Bryan was white-hot in 2013, but in the end, he was really only pushed as a means of heating up Randy Orton as the WrestleMania 30 antagonist. By this point, though, the chasm between the WWE office and the hate-watchers was too wide. The hardcore fans who remained outright refused to accept Daniel Bryan’s demotion, and he was such a genius of a house afire babyface that the proper WWE fans fell in love with the guy too. He was a unifying force. 

Bryan became an indentured Wyatt Family servant dressed in Taz’s old boiler suit. This probably wasn’t a pissy attempt at outright sabotage, but it wasn’t a push, either. On January 13, 2014, Bryan and Bray Wyatt failed to dethrone Tag Team champions the Usos. Wyatt was furious. Bryan fought back. 

What followed was one of the loudest and greatest moments in the history of WWE Raw. Bryan scaled the Steel Cage and led the fans in a “Yes!” chant. To be clear, this wasn’t loud for a post-Attitude Era crowd. This was as loud as anything Stone Cold Steve Austin himself was able to command, the sound of thousands upon thousands of people demanding that Bryan reclaim his rightful place in the main event.
