Fans around the world were left shocked when news spread that New Day pair Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods had been released by WWE over the weekend. The veteran duo were joined by no less than 25 other workers who were cut from the roster for various reasons (including the dreaded budget cuts excuse).

Now, both Kofi and Xavier have commented on their departures from the market leader in twin strong, emotional social media statements. Fellow former New Day member Big E also chimed in to thank the duo for their friendship, work as peers in the faction, and for their impact on the broader industry as a whole.

In his own statement, Kingston appeared to confirm concurrent reports that WWE/TKO have been asking various stars to take hefty pay cuts. He said: "Do not ever compromise or accept less than your due when it comes to your worth. Find the courage to believe in yourself and fearlessly pursue your goals and dreams, because anything is possible".

Meanwhile, Woods thanked the WWE audience for letting him play his role to the hilt for so long. He also added that fan support had given Xavier Woods the confidence to be Austin Creed whilst reflecting on a 16-year stint with the promotion.

What comes next is unclear, but both have been linked to AEW, TNA and elsewhere on the wrestling map. A late-2024 heel turn for Kofi and Xavier didn't pay dividends, but was arguably worth the risk. Sadly, without E returning to the ring for at least one more match, their villainous streak quickly petered out.

In some respects, it's still difficult to believe that New Day is gone from WWE TV.
