One could only nod sagely with furrowed brow and stroked chin as WWE finally found the way to present Roman Reigns' pay-per-view Universal Title ascension as something to savour rather than sulk over. As a televisual presentation, it was as brilliant as it was sneaky as it was cynical.

None of these things remotely reflect the response that used to be generated by a "top" babyface at long last reaching the culmination of their Championship journey, but it's time to accept that we are where we are now. Well, we are where WWE have stubbornly drove us to, tied up in the boot of their car whilst rendered unable to kick and scream because of bound ankles and a gagged gob.

Roman Reigns is the WWE Universal Champion. Roman Reigns is the top babyface in WWE. Roman Reigns, Roman Reigns, Roman Reigns, Roman Reigns. We are back here again, browbeaten and annoyed, within weeks of begging for the return of these times.
