When The Undertaker made his return during the 'Iron Man' match between The Rock and Triple H at Judgment Day 2000, he was pretty different to the man fans had last seen in 1999. Gone were the undertones which seemed to suggest that the guy was Satan himself, and instead he looked more like a regular dude, if The Undertaker could ever look like a regular person. The 'American Bad Ass' era of the character was born, played to the ring by the Kid Rock song of the same name. It felt fresh, exciting, if a little confusing that the character was more human than ever before. Regardless, fans went bananas for this new incarnation of 'Taker, and the man himself seemed to be enjoying things more than ever. It remains questionable who made the call to change the format of The Undertaker character so drastically, but it seems fair to say that both Vince McMahon and Mark Calaway agreed that it was the right direction to take. Recent comments from Kevin Nash, suggesting that 'Taker nearly jumped to WCW shortly before this time, should give this book ammunition to discuss how the idea came to pass.
