The WORST Moment From EVERY WWE SummerSlam
25. DDP & Kanyon Get Squashed (2001)
Oh boy. The only "Feel The Bang" vibes poor Diamond Dallas Page experienced in 2001 was his jaw banging the floor as he found out what the WWF wanted from him. First, they turned him into a creepy stalker and completely dismissed his 'People's Champion' gimmick from WCW. Then, they made him look like a total loser alongside good pal Kanyon at SummerSlam.
Page and Kanyon got mauled by The Undertaker and Kane in a double WWF/WCW Tag-Team Title steel cage match on the undercard. It was 10 minutes of the federation's big boys flexing their dominance over those World Championship W***ers from down south, and nobody was there to tell them: 'Hey, maybe it'd be a better idea if you all worked together for a common goal'.
The match was brutally bad, and it turned out to be the latest example of the WWF ridiculing WCW. Nothing else. It was all senseless stuff. Fans didn’t even get to see a good match out of it, which is arguably the biggest crime any segment can commit. Run your peacocking contest all you like, but at least give people buying your pay-per-view some entertaining back and forth.
Most things on SummerSlam 2001 showcased the dying WCW threat, but none were as egregious as this cage-based murder scene. Apparently, Kanyon's "Alliance MVP" t-shirt stood for, "Alliance Must Vanish Pronto". There was no excuse for how lame the WCW squad were made to look here.
It's hardly like the Brothers Of Destruction needed a squash to get them over with crowds.
