The WORST Moment From EVERY WWE SummerSlam

16. ‘Super Cena’ Neuters Nexus (2010)

John Cena's retirement tour lauded his greatest accomplishments and downplayed the worst parts of his WWE career. Fans rejected a generational heel run for 2 reasons. Firstly, because the follow up on his heel turn sucked. Second, because people just didn't want to boo Cena during his final year as an active worker.

The irony here is that folks had been screaming jeers at JC for decades. Case in point: SummerSlam 2010. Back then, Cena was viewed as a poster boy for WWE ignorance, and he was booed heavily during his entrances, promos and matches by many. The Nexus crew might've been amongst those booing.

Get this: Despite taking a bump on the concrete and being at a handicap disadvantage, Cena ‘Super Cena’d’ up and beat both Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett like they were Tekno Team 2000 to win the main event for ‘Team WWE’. Behind the curtain, both Edge and Chris Jericho disagreed with him on the finish, but John vetoed that to make Nexus look like losers.

It was a poor decision, and a senseless one.

Nexus looked totally nullified when they were supposed to represent a huge threat to the status quo. Edge and Jericho knew it was more important to hype the heel group up, but 'Super Cena' had to 'Super Cena' Sheesh, and people drone on about Hulk Hogan's creative power plays. This was ridiculously selfish from JC.

It also hampered the SummerSlam headliner by sucking fans out of the rebellious power fantasy Barrett and chums had been peddling since their main roster debuts in June.
