The WORST Moment From Every WWE WrestleMania
6. Gronk Wins The 24/7 Title (WrestleMania 36)
WWE's 24/7 Title should be studied as a means to find out what goes through the minds of overworked pro wrestling writers. In fairness, it was Vince McMahon who rubber stamped the gimmick. By doing so, he ensured that fans were "treated" to a watered down version of the old Hardcore Title hijinks.
It was also a way for the E to pretend that celebrities cared about winning a belt for 12 seconds.
Nobody misses the 24/7 idea, surely. Well, maybe R-Truth, because it sustained his run and gave him a reason to keep showing up to TV every week for a long stretch, but nobody else. By the time WrestleMania 36 rolled around in 2020, the world was in shutdown mode due to the COVID pandemic. Despite that, the promotion put on a fun-packed weekend of action.
NFL player Rob Gronkowski’s brief sojourn as a pro wrestler peaked with him pinning his pal Mojo Rawley to become the new 24/7 champ. Incredibly, even though he'd won out in April, Gronk held the thing until June (which makes him the third longest reigning champ between Reginald and Dana Brooke). WWE put it back on Truth after that.
Gronkowski's interest in wrestling faded and he returned to the gridiron with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Meanwhile, the WWE 24/7 Title limped on until Triple H put a bullet in it come November 2022. As aforementioned, not many could've been gutted to see it go.
The belt design was horrible, the comedic spots wore thin, and Gronk's title win proved to be the worst thing about a super weird 'Mania 36.
