This Major WWE Star's Contract Expires In January
The former world champion had his WWE contract reduced at the start of the pandemic.
Kevin Owens' WWE contract expires in January 2022, reports Fightful Select.
This news may catch some by surprise, given that Owens told TVA Sports that he had signed a new five-year deal lasting until 2023 back in May 2018, but it seems his WWE contract was one of several to be restructured before the COVID-19 pandemic's onset. Per Fightful, KO's deal's expiry date was brought forward to January 2022 at that time.
There's currently no word on why, exactly, this was changed.
Owens has been with WWE for over seven years now, having signed his first developmental contract with the promotion in August 2014. He didn't wait long to debut in NXT, making his first appearance at TakeOver: R Evolution that December, squashing CJ Parker in the opening match before heinously turning on long-time frenemy Sami Zayn following Zayn's emotional NXT Championship win in the main event. Two months later, Owens was NXT Champion himself.
Plenty of success has come Owens' way since then, including a Universal Title run from August 2016 to March 2017. He currently finds himself feuding with the reborn Happy Corbin on SmackDown.
