Rey Mysterio and Roman Reigns weren't just fighting for the WWE Universal Champion on last week's episode of SmackDown.

As traced by Reddit user u/InvasionXX and the What's Sizzling? podcast, if legal custody of Dominik Mysterio was considered a lineal championship, Reigns would have defended it against Rey on last week's show.

This goes all the way back to SummerSlam 2005. Mysterio fought Eddie Guerrero for custody of Dominik that night, defeating his rival in a ladder match. If treated as a championship thereafter - and assuming said championship was defended at every opportunity - Reigns took custody of Dominik by defeating Drew McIntyre at Survivor Series 2020.

McIntyre would have passed the custody back and forth with Randy Orton during their WWE Title feud last year. Orton, meanwhile, would have claimed it by defeating edge at Backlash 2020. Previously, Edge had taken it into his nine-year retirement from professional wrestling prior to his Royal Rumble 2020 return.

Rey missed a crucial opportunity to regain guardianship of Dominik in last week's Hell In A Cell match. If Dom now steps up to face Reigns, as has been rumoured, he will be fighting for custody of himself.
