Rumors that WWE is rebranding "Night of Champions" as "Clash of Champions" have been proven true, as Ticketmaster.com is now selling seats for the show. It will take place on September 25 at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The name is a slight modification of "Clash of the Champions," a recurring event that was part of WCW's calendar. Rather than taking place on Pay-Per-View, Clash of the Champions aired free on TBS, with 35 editions of the broadcast taking place between 1988 and 1997.

The first Clash of the Champions took place on March 27, 1988, airing head-to-head with WrestleMania IV as retaliation for Vince McMahon scheduling WWE Pay-Per-View events opposite NWA PPVs. At that show, Sting battled NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair to a 45-minute time-limit draw, making the future "Vigilante" a star.

The Clash of Champions confirmation comes on the heels of news that WWE will be expanding its schedule to 20 Pay-Per-View events a year. The company was also reported as bringing back the "Backlash" and "No Mercy" shows, but there has been no official confirmation of either, despite the fact that Backlash is rumored to be taking place two weeks before Clash of Champions.
