Title Changes Hands At AEW Battle Of The Belts 2
And NEW...
Sammy Guevara is your new AEW TNT Champion.
At last night's Battle of the Belts 2 special, the Spanish God defeated Scorpio Sky to become a three-time TNT Champion - bringing Sky's reign with that secondary title to an end at just 38 days.
Guevara vs. Sky opened last night's show, going just shy of 13 minutes before Sammy picked up the win. Interestingly, that win came after the former Inner Circle man hit Scorp with a low blow before then putting him away with the GTH. Prior to this, Dan Lambert and Ethan Page brought Paige VanZant out to ringside to brawl with Tay Conti. With the referee distracted by this, Sky landed an eye poke on his opponent, before Guevara fired back with that low blow.
Taking place from Garland, Texas' Curtis Culwell Center, Battle of the Belts 2 then had Jonathan Gresham successfully retain the ROH World Championship against one-time ROH World Champ Dalton Castle, whilst the main event saw AEW Women's Champion Thunder Rosa defending her prize against Nyla Rose.
The Gresham vs. Castle match very much had the famed Code of Honor at play, with Dalton forced to submit to Gresham's Octopus submission. Post-match, Satnam Singh, Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal came out and attacked both men - and Castle's Boys, for that matter - before Lee Moriarty, Matt Sydal and eventually Samoa Joe made the save.
For the show-closing AEW Women's Title match, Thunder Rosa put on a great fighting underdog performance against her larger opponent. Having managed to kick out of several major moves from the Native Beast, La Mera Mera secured the win after hitting a hurricanrana into a pinning combination.
