TNA have gone off the Twitter deep end. Last nights Victory Road event was a near 3-hour advert for Social Networking. The usual trending topics flashed up on screen, but it didnt end there. We had a Victory Road hash tag banner, Tweets displayed on the screen backstage that Jeremy Borash asked questions from, a tweet during a competitive match (by Austin Aries) and to top it all off, the commentators did NOT STOP talking about it all night. They completely ignored the flow of the match and the calling of moves to instead read out generic tweets from @VELVETSKYSKNOCKERS or whomever they could find that had something positive to say about their show. I shouldnt be mentioning Twitter first EVER in a wrestling review, but it really was THAT overpowering. It was enough to make me want to mute my TV, and I havent done that since Michael Cole turned his nonsense way down. You could literally have skipped onto any moment in the event and been seconds away from a mention of Twitter. In secondary news from the event, there were also some wrestling matches. And the booking was questionable to say the least. In the main event, Sting met Bobby Roode in a No Holds Barred match. The last image of the two was Sting beating Bobby down on Impact after Roode threatened to expose Sting as a washed up, has-been. In the PPV match, Roode introduced a chair and set it up to drive Sting into it. Sting apparently didnt know the chair was there, and when he went to use the Stinger Death Drop, he instead smashed his own head backward onto the steel seat. Great ring awareness that. Makes Sting look like an idiot and Roode look like a fluke again. Im all for heels stealing wins, but winning by accident is a different thing altogether. Roode then grabbed Dixie Carter into the ring, taped Sting to the ropes and threatened to hit Dixie with the chair. Victory Road went off the air with the female owner in the ring crying in fear. Whoever insists on having Dixie try and act is insane. Before now I would have blamed Russo, who do I blame now? Also I dont know what they think theyre going to gain by adding this to Roodes character. Considering he already has a title match with James Storm going forward, I have no idea what this Dixie thing is all about. Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy had a decent match. It went long enough for Hardys face paint to mostly come off to the point where he nearly looked like a normal person. Before that however on Impact, Kurt Angle gave Garrett Bischoff a Five Minute Challenge, where if he lasted the time limit he won. And guess what? The seed of Bischoff won. Sure, Kurt Angle was all over him and hit him with an Angle Slam, but Garrett lasted the time limit. Against one of the only people that TNA would have who could destroy someone in a shoot. The Garrett push knows no limits! Next week, tune in to see him no sell a barbed wire bat to the face. I half expected him to be the mystery challenger to Robbie Es title. More on THAT later. As for Kurt and Jeff, their match was one of the better PPV entries, and after some decent false finishes and Kurt busting himself open, he used the ropes for leverage to pin Jeff and steal the win. In a way that still made him look credible. Take note whoever is booking Roode Next in line for weird booking decisions, Mr Anderson was added to the AJ Styles/Kazarian/Daniels storyline. On Impact, he was doing a promo talking about it but Daniels and Kaz interrupted before he had to explain why he was involved. Convenient! AJ then helped Anderson beat Daniels on Impact, leading to the tag team match at the PPV. Considering AJ had lost at the last big show, I could see nothing but a win here now that he had Anderson to back him up. A pretty good tag match overall, despite the questionable booking. Rumour was that TNA werent going to put people on TV unless they have a reason. Does this count as a reason? Is this still going somewhere after this? Ive said it numerous times, as long as Kaz, Daniels and AJ are wrestling its still not a bad thing. Daniels counter to AJs trademark backflip reverse DDT was a thing of beauty. The former Dudley Boyz had an interesting contrast of a night at Victory Road. In the opening PPV moment, Bully Ray came out all guns blazing and mouthing off, which led to their match being on first. Bully took a swig of beer, turned around and took a Last Call super kick and a one, two, three inside a few minutes. Arguably one of the top matches being built up for the show and it was done that quickly. Sure, Storm is on a roll toward a title match but still an odd way to go. Wrestling Matters after all. On the other Dudley side, Devon was the wrestler who answered Robbie Es open challenge. Robbie before the match tried to say that he was cancelling but Devon came out and beat him anyway. They might use the cancellation tactic to further the storyline but for now, Devon has that belt. They could have had anyone answer that challenge. Including a number of people who havent been on TV a lot lately. And not to hate on Devon, but hes 39, and although the belt was rarely defended (and in the grand scheme of things the TV Title means fuck all in TNA) that belt gave a young guy like Robbie E a reason to be on TV. In stark contrast to the TV Title, the TNA X Division Title is really being showcased the way it should be. Austin Aries is the champion that division deserves, and the longer he holds the belt, the better and better he makes it look. He has just become the longest reigning X Champion in TNA history putting him up there with the best X Champions that have been. And on top of that he had another good match with Zema Ion at Victory Road in which he showed Zema a thing or two about how to be a heel. Continuing the trend, The Tag and Knockout titles are also in good hands. Magnus and Joe are still having good matches as a team, despite the cool points the lost for Joes new Joe-Hawk haircut. At Victory Road they beat Crimson and Morgan again, when Crimson finally turned heel on Morgan. Also in good news for the future, we got a promo video for the Motor City Machine Guns who may be on a collision course with Joe and Magnus. Meanwhile, Gail Kim beat her sidekick Madison Rayne to retain the belt in a decent match for a Knockouts Match. And in another positve. Garrett Bischoff wasnt on the Pay Per View.
