TNA/Impact Wrestling legend James Storm has claimed he came within a hair of returning to WWE after WrestleMania 36, only for the ongoing global health crisis to put the plans on ice.

Speaking to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Storm said that WWE first reached out to him about a comeback over Royal Rumble weekend in January, with the NWA's Dave Lagana and Billy Corgan willing to let him out of his contract should he choose to go.

Storm outlined a plan that would see him and partner Eli Drake dropping the NWA Tag Team Championships during WrestleMania weekend. This show was cancelled, and in Storm's words, the situation "kept snowballing." He put effort into getting ready for WWE's physical tests after 'Mania 36 and even bought new gear for the occasion, though he was eventually told that everything was being postponed as a result of the crisis.

2015 saw Storm score a couple of victories over Adam Rose and Danny Burch in NXT, though he ended up sticking with Impact rather than joining WWE full-time. It'll be interesting to see if Vince McMahon's promotion still plans on bringing him in once a sense of normality returns.
