Khan tweeted the following on Tuesday (28 September), talking up the "special card" in Lee's hometown of Rochester, New York:-

Lee was originally supposed to debut for AEW in Rochester on 18 March 2020, though the COVID-19 pandemic's onset earlier that month prevented this from happening. Instead of emerging to what would surely have been a deafening hometown pop, Lee was unveiled as the Dark Order's 'Exalted One' in an empty Daily's Place, though he quickly surged up the AEW ranks and into a Double Or Nothing 2020 World Title feud with Jon Moxley.

Taking time away from television after dropping the TNT Title to Cody Rhodes on 7 October 2020, Lee tragically passed away on 26 December, having spent over a month being treated for a lung issue at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. AEW held a tear-jerking tribute episode to Lee and his life the following Wednesday (30 December).
