Tony Khan Announces Major Change To AEW Championship On Dynamite
Major change for AEW Championship, with first defence of new title also confirmed.
The AEW All-Atlantic Championship is getting a reboot.
Tony Khan made the announcement last night, commenting that the belt was "levelling up" as part of some corporate synergy with upcoming movie "Shazam! Fury Of The Gods", and went on to announce that the first defence of the renamed "AEW International Championship' would take place on next week's edition of Dynamite from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Current (and new?) Champion Orange Cassidy will defend the belt against Jeff Jarrett, following 'Double J's post-match beatdown on him after Cassidy successfully defended the gold against Jarrett's Triple J stablemate Jay Lethal. Jarrett smashed a guitar across Cassidy's injured knee then bailed into the crowd ahead of the announcement.
The match will mark Jarrett's first singles bout in All Elite Wrestling since he signed for the company since his in-ring debut last November. He's worked numerous Tag Team matches alongside Lethal and/or Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt, but hasn't yet strutted his stuff solo. It'll be his first singles match of any kind since last November too, where he was defeated by fellow AEW wrestler Matt Hardy in a No Disqualification bout at WrestleCade Supershow.
