WWE is reportedly delighted with Austin Theory's progress, seeing the United States Champion as somebody who could conceivably help carry the promotion for the next 10 years or so, reports WrestlingNews.co.

This comes as part of a writeup on Theory's seemingly soon-to-be-announced WrestleMania 39 match with the legendary John Cena. WrestlingNews.co states that WWE had originally wanted to book that clash for SummerSlam 2022, though Cena's filming commitments for season two of Peacemaker made this impossible.

Later, WWE pencilled Cena in for a WrestleMania tie-up with Logan Paul, which the athletes alluded to on social media. By January, Paul was pivoted over to Seth Rollins, with whom he is now feuding on company television.

WrestlingNews.co reports that Cena shares WWE's belief that Theory has the tools required to become a top-tier main-eventer. People in the company are understood to see things in the US Champion that the fans haven't witnessed yet - and the outlet's sources indicate that while the finish isn't clear yet, some believe that Cena is coming in to put Theory over at 'Mania.

WWE is understood to have filmed a backstage vignette featuring the duo in December. This is yet to air, though Cena has been announced for next week's Raw in his Boston, MA hometown.
