UFC president Dana White has announced that the highly anticipated matchup between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson for the UFC Lightweight Championship will go ahead despite the current crisis.

White even went as far as saying that he has a new location sorted for the UFC 249 event after the original venue in New York was nixed.

If the event is cancelled, it will mark the fifth time that Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have been slated to compete without the fight taking place, stretching back to 2015.

Despite the current situation leading to three UFC cards being rescheduled, White has remained steadfast in his belief that the biggest combat sports event of the year to date will go ahead as planned.

Appearing for a brief interview on Instagram Live with Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, White explained that while a venue has been confirmed, it will not be released to the public at this time: “I do (know the location), but I’m not ready to tell you yet.”

During the interview, White also confirmed that the event will take place without fans in attendance, much like the recent UFC Fight Night 170.

White has also since asserted that he expects UFC 249 to go ahead with all of its scheduled fights.
