Is "TNT Champion Cody Rhodes Returns?" still valid marketing for tonight's AEW Dynamite?

Cody Rhodes' pro wrestling future was thrown into question earlier this week, when Fightful Select reported that the AEW TNT Champion had technically become a free agent following his contract's expiration in late 2021.

This, understandably, raised a number of questions - including that of Rhodes' status for this week's episode of Dynamite. AEW had previously advertised the TNT Champion's return to television following a two-week absence for tonight. Fortunately for those looking forward to seeing Rhodes again, this is still on the cards.

Dave Meltzer reported on Tuesday that Rhodes will, indeed, appear on the show, which should help put some of the speculation to bed.

Though Cody is technically working for AEW as a freelancer at the moment, it is understood that the two parties are working on putting a new deal together. Whether or not they have agreed to terms was unclear at the time of writing.

Rhodes was due to appear on the 5 January episode of Dynamite before a family-related medical issue meant he had to fly home prior to the tapings. Sammy Guevara has been crowned interim TNT Champion in his absence, necessitating a future unification match between the two.
