Update On Sonya Deville Potentially Returning To A WWE Ring
Will Sonya Deville wrestle again once crowds return to WWE shows?
Don't expect to see Sonya Deville rushing back to a wrestling ring anytime soon.
This is according to Deville herself on WWE's The Bump. After speaking on her current role as a WWE authority figure alongside Adam Pearce, Sonya was asked by host Kayla Braxton if she was itching to get back in the ring once crowds return in July. To this, Deville said the following (h/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcription):-
“You know, I love what I’m doing right now. I think it’s a natural fit. I’m a leader in life, and I think it transitions well into a suit and tie. I love being in charge, so I’m content with where I am right now. At the end of the day, of course, I’m a fighter, but I’m really enjoying growing and learning in this role. I don’t see an end to it anytime soon.”
Deville has been positioned alongside Pearce since 1 January 2021, when she was installed as his assistant. She has grown into the role, in real life and in kayfabe, having recently clashed with Pearce over decisions relating to Charlotte Flair and the Raw Women's Championship, though the duo appear to be back on the same page for now.
As far as wrestling goes, Sonya hasn't stepped between the ropes since SummerSlam 2020, where she lost a Loser Leaves WWE match to friend-turned-rival Mandy Rose. This came days after Deville was the victim of a terrifying home invasion, for which a man was hit with several charges including armed burglary of a dwelling and attempted armed kidnapping.
Deville's stalker was deemed mentally incapable of standing trial in May.
