Wrestling Observer boss Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE altered plans for WrestleMania 40 a few days ago at the request of The Rock. He was the one who pushed for change, which in turn shoves planned headliner Cody Rhodes out of the main event picture opposite Roman Reigns.

It's expected that WWE will formally announce Rock vs. Reigns at a special press conference in Las Vegas this coming Thursday. There, the hype train towards 'Mania will properly begin, but nobody has any clue what this means for Cody.

Presumably, he'll slide into CM Punk's spot as a challenger for Seth Rollins. That won't be as satisfying to those who wanted to see Rhodes "finish the story" by taking the Undisputed WWE Universal Title from Roman one year after losing to him at WrestleMania 39.

Meltzer says WWE still had Cody locked in at the Rumble and during Monday's episode of Raw. Then, ahead of Friday's SmackDown, The Rock piped up about his 'Mania match wishes and the company moved some pieces around the board for him.

It looks like Cody vs. Seth will headline night one, and Rocky vs. Roman will go on last for night two.
