Watching WWE TV Live In The UK: Can Anything Good Happen After 2am?

If you love the experience of seeing what happens in a WWE ring live in the UK, you best make sure the coffee pot is full.

Raw has just gone into commercial break. You go into the kitchen to get a drink, it's completely dark outside, but you can see a few other lights on in the living rooms of other houses outside the window. You think, "I bet they're watching Raw too". Well, it's likely, what else would those people be doing at 2.45am on a Tuesday morning? These are the thoughts of a Wrestling fan watching Raw live in the UK. Monday night Raw will soon permanently be extending to a 3 hour long television programme. If you're a big fan of the WWE product and want to watch every show live, this means you will be awake from at least 1am to 4am every single Tuesday morning in you are in the UK. The question is, will the quality of the television being shown at that hour justify the lack of sleep? Does watching WWE's flagship show at this hour change the perception of it for the viewer? If there is something or someone on the show the fan doesn't enjoy, it's not like viewing in the U.S where they could flick over the channel and find another popular prime time show. All you could get in the UK during the hours that Raw is live is the dedicated RnB video channel playing 3 of a Kind's one hit wonder 'Babycakes' on loop. This immediately makes the effect of an unenjoyable segment during Raw seem much more negative, as the viewer will have actively made a choice to either wake up especially or stay up this late in order to watch the show. If it isn't keeping them gripped, chances are they are going to be pretty upset that they made that investment. And what of the good quality? How different do CM Punk's Championship win at Money In The Bank 2011 or the returns of The Rock and Brock Lesnar seem to somebody who's potentially been awake for 20 hours straight? If a Raw show is giving the viewer the experience WWE hopes then at the end of the show fans will be very excited, wondering what will happen next in a given storyline. Being that a fan of WWE is likely to then be thinking of this or sharing their thoughts on the Internet afterwards, this makes it tough to unwind quickly after an event that has affected their emotions in such a way. Continuing to use the UK as an example, you would imagine this would not be how someone would want to be feeling at 4am as they go to bed. Thoughts of what will happen on the next show will be running through their mind as they try and get some sleep ahead of waking the next morning. It's interesting to wonder how one fan's opinion may differ from watching an event at 2am vs 8pm. It's tough to gauge such a result as well, given that the only time Raw could be viewed overseas at 8pm would be if a fan was watching it live in person, in which case their view of the show is already vastly different anyhow just from being there. The only other option is to watch the rerun later in the week but even then the viewer knows what they are watching is not a live occurrence which would sway the opinion to a degree.
