What New Age Outlaws Callback Took Place On AEW Dynamite?

Career-defining moment for the Outlaws comes full circle 24 years later.

AEW Dynamite saw what presumably was the blowoff match in the feud between The Acclaimed and the Gunn Club Wednesday night, with the former friends battling in AEW's first Dumpster match.

The Acclaimed wasted little time in jumping Billy Gunn on the stage, taking him out to even things up. The match saw Anthony Bowens & Max Caster take out their aggression on Austin & Colten Gunn, eventually dropping both of them into the Dumpster and slamming the lids shut for the win.

But afterwards, they locked the lid shut and proceeded to shove the Dumpster -- with the Gunns inside -- off the stage.

This isn't the first time that wrestlers have been pushed off a stage while locked in a Dumpster, but considering this involved the Gunn Club, it was definitely reminiscent of the February 1998 incident that put Billy Gunn and his tag partner Road Dogg on the map.

During a Raw match between Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, the New Age Outlaws locked the two in a Dumpster in a very similar manner and proceeded to push it off the stage, with Jim Ross screaming bloody murder. That incident was seen as igniting Gunn and Road Dogg's careers as a tag team, as they'd join D-Generation X two months later and be off to the races.

Fast-forward 24 years, and it was Billy Gunn's kids being trapped in a Dumpster and taking a similar ride to the one he and his partner sent Cactus and Chainsaw on, again with JR calling the action.
