A total of 10 wrestlers were released from WWE last week, with "budget cuts" cited as the reason. This is despite the promotion generating record-breaking profits in 2020.

James, along with Samoa Joe and The IIconics, was one of the biggest names on the cut list.

A wrestler since 1999, Mickie was in her second run with WWE, having returned to the company to face Asuka in a one-off NXT TakeOver match in 2016. She was then brought back on a full-time basis, with her last appearance coming in the 2021 women's Royal Rumble.

James had reportedly been campaigning to wrestle again prior to WWE letting her go. It's unlikely that she will be short of suitors once her 90-day non-compete clause expires.
