What The Hell Is The AEW All Out 2022 Main Event?!
Say what you will about Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk, but the All Out 2022 is now a total mystery.
Last night's AEW Dynamite left the promotion's upcoming All Out 2022 main event a total mystery, ensuring that the issue will remain a hot-button topic all the way through to Sunday 4 September, when the pay-per-view hits Chicago, IL.
Interim champion Jon Moxley unified the AEW World Championship by defeating CM Punk in a shocking squash on last night's Dynamite. Running less than four minutes, the bout saw Mox completely overwhelm Punk, who sold that his surgically-repaired foot was still injured after hitting Moxley with a high kick. This gave Moxley an easy target to attack, leading, ultimately, to his victory, with the announcers putting over the idea that Punk had returned from injury too soon.
That AEW opted to host the match on Dynamite, not in the All Out main event, sparked much discussion prior to the event. Now, there is sure to be even more.
The bout's nature likely rules out a 4 September rematch. This leaves AEW without an obvious World Title fight for the show, with little over a week left to build anything up.
Absent star MJF could believably roll back into the promotion and enter a program with Moxley that wouldn't require a long build prior to All Out. Whatever MJF does next is going to be the hottest thing in the company, given the depth of his reported contractual issues with the company, though him even returning to the promotion appears far from surefire at the moment.
As for other potential options, 'Hangman' Adam Page was first in AEW's latest men's singles rankings and is currently without an All Out match. He is expected to have a role to play should the Trios World Championship Tournament culminate in his Dark Order friends facing The Elite on 4 September, however.
