When Will John Cena Win 16th WWE World Title?

When will Cena tie Ric Flair's record of 16 championship reigns?

Much has been made of late about John Cena's status as a 15-time world champion. The next time Cena wins the strap, he'll tie Ric Flair's record of 16 championship reigns. However, according to new reports, it doesn't appear that will be happening anytime soon. Cena last held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship during the summer of 2014, losing the belt to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam that year. Cena has been held away from the WWE's top prize for most of 2015 while the company has attempted to get over new stars, namely Roman Reigns. The plan has always been to get Reigns over as the company's next big star and have him defend the belt against Cena down the line in a big-time money match. However, plans changed going into WrestleMania 31, and Roman Reigns has yet to hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE put Cena back into their world title picture this summer, with Cena challenging champion Seth Rollins for the title a few weeks back at SummerSlam. With so much made in the lead-up to the match of Cena possibly tying Flair's record, many have been expecting that it must be likely to happen relatively soon. Especially with Cena dropping the U.S. Championship to Rollins. However, at this point, it doesn't appear that Cena will be getting a run with the title anytime this year. According to Dave Meltzer, the plan is for Cena to get a 16th championship reign at some point in 2016. The working plan is still for Reigns to have a run with the belt first, before finally going back to Cena for his 16th world championship victory.
