Why AEW Television Won't Be As Violent As Fyter Fest?
Tony Khan reveals all in post-PPV media scrum.
All Elite Wrestling Fyter Fest was, at times, a violent, violent show, with a handful of big incidents sparking debate around the internet.
The first was Shawn Spears blasting Cody with unprotected chairshot, slicing the back of the 'American Nightmare's' head open. Later, Jon Moxley and Joey Janela engaged in a wild "non-sanctioned" main event featuring all kinds of plunder, from barbed wire boards and thumbtacks to ladders and tables.
This has led to speculation that AEW TV might follow a similar template when Tuesday/Wednesday Night Dynamite debuts in October, but company president Tony Khan was quick to shoot the talk down during Fyter Fest's post-show media scrum.
"No, no, no, definitely (don't expect these things on TV)," he told reporters (h/t Cageside Seats). "This was not TV, this was a streaming show," he added. "It was effectively a pay-per-view in a lot of the world, and so you can expect different rules for pay-per-view."
Khan then hammered a final nail into the coffin: "We wouldn't have advertised that kind of violence, you know? We wouldn't have offered that on TNT, 100% no."
This is likely for the best, despite Dynamite's apparent TV-14 rating. Matches like Janela vs. Moxley may not be sustainable if they became a regular occurrence.
