Why Owen Hart Will Never Be In The WWE Hall Of Fame
The wishes of Martha Hart outweigh the wishes of wrestling fans.
Martha Hart has extrapolated on her reasons for not allowing her late husband Owen's WWE Hall of Fame induction in a new interview with CBS Sports.
"There's always been this talk that, 'Oh, we want to put Owen in the Hall of Fame,'" said Martha. "Their Hall of Fame? They don't even have a Hallway of Fame. It doesn't exist. There's nothing. It's a fake entity. There's nothing real or tangible. It's just an event they have to make money. They put it on TV and have a celebration, and it's just so ridiculous. I would never even entertain it. It's garbage."
So there you have it: a stance outweighing that of any wrestling fan campaigning for an induction, unless they, too, are a widow or widower who has lost a loved one in a WWE-sponsored stunt.
Owen passed away following a zipline entrance gone wrong at WWE Over the Edge 1999, after which the promotion controversially decided that the show must go on. His death will be covered on tonight's episode of VICE's Dark Side of the Ring.
“At the end of it all, I’ve forgiven all of them, really,” said Martha of Vince McMahon and the members of the Hart family who opposed her initial lawsuit against the promotion. "I don’t hold any grudges. I hope life has been kind to all of them. My life hasn’t been easy, and I certainly wouldn’t wish harm on anyone.”
