William Regal Set For Sensational WWE Return?
William Regal's AEW contract expires sooner than you think - and WWE has discussed a return.
WWE has at least discussed the prospect of bringing William Regal back to the promotion once his AEW contract expires.
Dave Meltzer reported as much on Wrestling Observer Radio, stating that Tony Khan only signed Regal to a one-year contract upon bringing the legendary Englishman into his promotion earlier this year. While Khan "can make [Regal] a better offer", in Meltzer's words, WWE has spoken about a Regal return, with William seemingly only bound to AEW for a matter of months.
Continuing, Meltzer described the situation as "not a non-story", albeit one that "will probably be all explained" before long.
Regal's actions on last week's episode of AEW Dynamite were interpreted by some as a write-off. A few days removed from costing Jon Moxley the AEW World Championship against MJF, Regal left the ring and walked up the ramp after Moxley had told him to "run away and never come back", furious at William's Full Gear 2022 betrayal.
February brought Regal's AEW debut, with the 54-year-old showing up at Revolution 2022 two months after leaving WWE. Prior to this, William had held a prominent position in the world's leading promotion, serving as the company's Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting until his departure, having been with WWE in various roles since 2000.
Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, a close friend and colleague of Regal's, is currently amongst the most powerful men in wrestling, having taken WWE's creative lead following disgraced former Chairman Vince McMahon's July resignation.
